  • D23: Visiting the Walt Disney Family Museum

    ScoopsPins
The D23 convention may be over, but there's still more fun to share!
Did you know the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco sells really cool pins? Well, they do! Check some of them out here on PinPics:

Pin Pals visiting Main Street would always bring pins to show me their cool finds, so I'd heard about the WD Family Museum for a long time and always wanted to go! Well, after all these years, I got a sneak peak during the brief moments we had to ourselves before all the ConventionEARs were allowed into the hall. I only got to see their booth very briefly, but that's because I'd noticed a showcase outside of the exhibit that looked like it had something very special in it! But more on that in a minute . . .

Look at all the cool merchandise and souvenirs you can get! But where are the pins? I bet they're in the showcase covered up by the drapes. Guess they know better than to leave the pins uncovered with this crowd!

"Jolly Holiday" Boots Worn by Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins (1964)

I didn't have time to read the caption, but thankfully the D23 website posted this:
" . . . the white lace up Edwardian-style boots worn by Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins (1964) were later re-polished and worn by Lesley Ann Warren in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968). If you look closely at the white heel and toe of the boots, you can see that the original pink coloring (from Mary Poppins) has been whitewashed over and repurposed. Thankfully, a very observant Archives staff member spotted the boots when the studio costume department was disbursed several years ago, and the boots were reunited with Mary’s “Jolly Holiday” costume."

This is the black straw hat worn by Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins that was discovered in the Disney Archives about ten years ago!

And take a look at this! It's Julie Andrews' hand prints and signature made in 1991 when she was honored as a Disney Legend. This and other hand prints of beloved Disney Legends are located in Legends Plaza at the Burbank Disney Lot. This is likely a duplicate or casting here on display at the Expo. This reminds me of the hand print ceremonies I used to MC at Disney's Hollywood Studios, but that's a story for another time.

I took my son to see the Eyvind Earle exhibit many years ago at the WDFM.  Had to, since I had named him Eyvind, haha.  It is an AMAZING place!  I really hope you get to visit some day.  I wish I lived nearby and could visit regularly.  IMHO, it's just as magical as going to the parks!

Happy you had a taste of the Disney Family Museum. So glad they are preserving the movie memorabilia. Do you know what happened to the items on display in the queue from THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE? Or the animatronics from those wonderful scenes? Enjoying your posts. Looking forward to more!

This is one place on my Bucket list.  But I am afraid  I will come home with so much I will need another room just for the items I get there.  This is a dream to still to come true
