TheTwins
As pin traders, most of us are bound to have acquired some scrapper pins and wondered what to do with them, or just loved a pin design so much that we wanted to do something crafty with the idea! So, feel free to share anything you've made with pins or inspired by Disney pins! I'll kickoff with a set of Christmas ornaments I made for a cat-loving pin friend. She mainly collects Figaro, but likes cats in general. Well, this set of DSSH LE pins was so amazing and had the cutest art, but they are really "Grail" pins. So, I got nice pictures of each one, and made ornaments, complete with the "pin-on-pin" layer with the bow applied on top of the ornament. Personally, Dinah wins, and is one of my all-time favorite pieces of Disney pin art! These are 2 3/4" wooden ornaments that are each a metallic colour and then the pin art is on the top, and all coated to high gloss. Make sure and scroll to the bottom to see the cutest Dinah! Here is the set of 10 : 1

These actually have no pins on them, scrapper or real. Just pin art. The bows presented a bit of a problem, since they do not fit in the base circle. They start as wooden ornaments. I painted them (back, rim, front rim) and then painted the hanger section on top. The pin art was sized in Photoshop and Sis cut out each bow, since the bow had to be separate. They were all printed on photopaper and then cut out all around the detail (making sure to pencil the name of the cat on the back of the bow!). Then I used a particular varnish to cover the front of the ornament and place the picture on it. After that tacks down, I use another varnish and start coating over the whole thing. Fronts first, then backs, then the side rim. With the drying time and how many coats . . . this took a solid week (the back bathroom counter became a varnish factory! ). For the bows, we cut them out and then I glued them to chip board. Once dry, I used a blade and cut out the chip board bow. After I was done with the ornament varnish, I glued the chipboard bow over top of the partial bow visible on the ornament image. Once those were totally dry, I varnished over the bow, too. There's the basic of how it was done! I made a Tinkerbell sign with a scrapper pin, and I am just having trouble finding the picture, or I'd have posted it by now!
TheTwins
I made a sign for a Tinkerbell fan, and I used a scrapper pin we'd gotten as ornament on the sign. I thought it was a cool use of a fun pin that turned out to be a scrapper. So far, I can only find this small picture that was shared by the recipient I think scrappers are a cool thing to use for crafts! If I can find a good picture, I'll share it, too! 1
TheTwins
Another fun use of a scrapper was this . . . I traded with someone on PinPics, and they were new and just starting to collect desert pins. So, I painted up a small 10x10 inch cork board with the Goofy's Candy Co. logo, and I used a scrapper Goofy pin for the center of the logo: 1
TheTwins
A PinPics member @krand1276 makes AMAZING hair bows using scrapper pins, and I hope she will stop by and post a picture one time! They are just so pretty!
TheTwins
Thought I'd bump this topic a bit and share a couple needle-felted sculptures that I made. Needle-felting is done using a barbed needle and wool roving. You poke the needle continuously up and down through the wool roving, and the wool felts into a solid piece. You can make flat pieces or 3D sculptures with this method. These two figures were made as gifts. The first one here is a Pin-Trading Jawa, made for a pin-trading friend who is crazy about these little scavengers. He stands 8-1/2" tall and weighs in at 2-1/2 ounces. He was made entirely of wool. Sis handmade the leather bag, and that's a genuine pin he's offering. Actually, there were a couple scrapper pins in his bag, but he can tell a real pin trader and offers the good pin to our friend! Oh, and Sis put glow-in-the-dark pigment over the yellow wool of his eyes, so they will glow. And the other one here is Kanan Jarrus from Star Wars Rebels. Sis and I have this really special friend who is crazy about Kanan. We were able to do a lot of Skyping together during the COVID shut-downs in 2021, so I made this for her -- doing most of the work over the Skype conversations. That way, we were all part of it together. It was super fun! Kanan stands 10-3/4" high, which makes him the second largest wool doll that I've made to date (out of the 35 dolls I've made over the last 14 years). He weighs three ounces and took 77 hours to complete – which also makes him the longest felting project I've made so far. I was working on from January through September! He's made out of 100% Merino roving, but Sis made the fabulous shoulder armor and weapons for this doll. Because Kanan doesn't weigh very much (being wool), the trick was to figure out how to make such substantial pieces in a light-weight way that the doll could support. She ended up using Crayola Model Magic, which is an extremely light-weight air-drying modelling clay. She then painted it and coated it with clear coat. The armor and pistol are completely made of the Model Magic, while the lightsaber was finished with extra details made of a silver-tone endpin attached to a Hematite bead – and steel washer. Kanan also has a steel hook on his belt, and a specially made Comlink. She also painted a special stand for him. 3

TheTwins
Just something else fun to share . . . another large realm of interest/hobby for me is militaria. I've been into military history since we were growing up and got into the militaria side of it ten years ago or so now. Started when I wanted a wing badge like my WWII hero would have had. Then some patches and insignia that my GGUncle is wearing in some picture of him in uniform in the family photo album. -sigh- It went on from there. I mostly collect to make small framed displays commemorating a particular veteran, but I also have a few items just for the collection! -grin- Sort of like pins . . . it can get very deep! Anyway, another hobby of mine is hand sewing (no machines for me, just me and a needle). Someone I knew on the military forum I'm on really wanted a patch like his Grandfather would have worn during WWII. However, the patch design was a Disney design, and Disney designs are harder to get because they are not only wanted by military collectors, but also by Disneyana collectors! So, I thought, why couldn't I embroider the patch for him? I'd never embroidered, but hey . . . got to start somewhere! This was the finished product - the patch of the 21st Bomb Group that served in the Aleutians in WWII: This lead to making a few more patches for friends and then some commissions, and I eventually did my favorite one so far . . . a very rare Disney design, for the 349th Bomb Squad/100th Bomb Group: Mickey riding "airplane" Pluto is just so cool! This one took about 30 hours to complete, and is a larger jacket-size patch around 4". 2

DisneyCatMom
I am so impressed with how talented you both are. Great job on all of them. I especially like the cat ornaments but like Figaro the best.
