TheTwins
For anyone in the state of Ohio, this tax holiday is a LOT bigger than any we've had before. Take advantage on any pin purchases. We've called around and gotten a lot of info about what applies to the holiday. I'm including a lot of info below. No vendor can legally opt out, so if you place an order and do not see the tax removed, then make sure to contact them. We ordered cat good from one company who did not have it set up, but they have since fixed the problem and refunded the tax! The 2024 sales tax holiday will take place from 12 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. OHIO STATE -- TAX HOLIDAY 2024 https://ohio.gov/residents/resources/sales-tax-holiday Begins: 12:01am Tuesday, July 30 Ends: 11:59pm, Thursday, August 8 The sales tax holiday will include all tangible personal property that is $500 or less except watercraft or outboard motors required to be titled pursuant to Chapter 1548 of the Revised Code, motor vehicles, an alcoholic beverage, tobacco, a vapor product, or an item that contains marijuana. Tangible personal property is any property that can be seen, weighed, measured, felt, or touched, including prewritten computer software. Some examples of tangible personal property include, but are not limited to electronics, clothes, home goods, dine-in food, dietary supplements, pet food, toys, school and office supplies, sports equipment, luggage, musical instruments, personal care products, and soft drinks. Each piece in a qualified purchase must be under $500. NOT the total of the sale, but EACH PIECE must be under $500. For instance, you can buy eight pairs of shoes that cost you $150/each in one single transaction, since each pair of shoes is less than $500. There is no limit on the amount of the total purchase. The qualification is determined item by item. Eat-in food (restaurant meals, etc) that is usually taxed will be exempt during this tax holiday. For instance, a total check may be over $500, but if each menu item ordered is less than $500, then the entire check would be tax free. Again, this excludes alcohol, as it does not fall under the holiday and tax must always be collected on its sale. Soft drinks are menu items that are exempt from sales tax during the holiday, whether they are consumed on or off premises. The sales tax holiday is set by law and vendors must comply. Motor vehicles are not subject to the new holiday, and their rental will continue to be taxable. However, the sales tax holiday does apply to all other rented equipment. If the product is under $500, the rental agreement begins during the tax holiday period, and the rented equipment isn’t watercraft and outboard motors that must be titled, the sales tax holiday would apply. Examples of eligible equipment are tools, scaffolding, lawn and landscaping equipment, materials handling equipment, or similar products. We've had no problem with online ordering, except for one Italian company that sells our cat's food here in the US. When I filled my online cart with their product, I noticed that tax was still being charge. One quick phone call, and they told me I was not the first to call and that they were having an "executive meeting" to figure out how to handle it. In the end, they decided that you would just order as usual, and they'd refund any taxes collected. A manager at a NAPA Auto Parts store confirmed that all goods bought from them were tax-free during this holiday period.
