Help w/ FAC#

So no specific pin to post here but in reading through some of these I am noticing people referencing an FAC#.  Can someone explain to me what that is?  We have been out of the trading scene for while (since we moved to Texas) and that is not something I am familiar with.  I know we have a ton of scrappers that we have tried our best to separate from our legit pins but if there is another method for confirming authenticity, which it sounds like the FAC# does, where can I find more info.

The FAC number refers to a manufacturer (factory) that makes the pins for Disney. Each manufacturer (factory) has a different number.

OK, so if I can't find an FAC, I can confirm it is a scrapper correct?  Also, as I read through I am seeing talk of "fake" pins.  Are they referring to scrappers or are these actual counterfeit pins that someone is producing?

I see a lot of pin back scanning in my future.

No, not all pins have a FAC number on them. There are fake pins being made and scrappers (pins that don't make Disney's QA standard (even that has been slipping) that should be destroyed but has not been at the factory. Some fakes have a good looking front and bad looking back or bad looking front and good looking back. Molly is creating a document (which I am helping to write) that will show you what to look for in the different types of fake pins. It's not quite done yet but will be available for everyone when it is done.

There is usually more than one thing wrong with fakes but you have to evaluate the pin as a whole. For example before 2020 (COVID) if you saw the Mickey-head Waffle pattern not go to the edge of the pin you can count that it is a fake pin. However since 2020 Disney's QA standard for that has slipped. So now if you see the Mickey-head Waffle pattern not go to the edge you can't say it is a fake pin. We are trying to note this in the listings when this happens. Some of the 2020 and 2024 Hidden Disney (Mickey) pins have this noted.

I hope this helps.
