Christmastime in the City Pin Event (2001)

One of the great things about this pin addiction hobby is the fact that you can always learn something new and discover a new pin! We had some fun this past week (thanks to a comment submitted by a user) and got to clean up and link a 2001 set in the database. Researching the old pins and events can be a bit tough, but we did find some interesting trivia for this one (thanks to Wayback Machine). So, I thought I'd spotlight this here, in hopes that some of you may be able to add your own comments or photos!

Christmastime in the City was an event held at Downtown Disney in WDW on 15 Dec 2001. It sounds very similar to parts of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, but this event had a lot to do with pins! Tickets were $25 per person and all 1,000 were sold out before Nov 17th. Gifts for ticketholders included holiday cookies, punch, and a special lanyard-and-pin set. Even Mickey and Minnie were there to "meet and greet"! The "new" RSP program (brought over from the Disneyland system) was used for the six LE pins, and ticketholders were asked to fill out one form only per person.

There were quite a few pins released for this event, all of which can be found here in the PinPics database:

Goofy's Tree Trimming Tour game featured a card that was available to event ticketholders and shows Goofy hanging from a Christmas Tree in a snow-covered field and holding a hammer in his hand. To play the game, you went to each of the stores listed on the card and answered a Disney trivia question to receive a stamp.

You also had first-crack at buying one of the five OE "Lady and the Tramp II" pins (featuring Tramp, Lady, Scamp, Jock or Trusty) needed to finish complete the scene ($6.50 each). Once you had all five stamps (pins optional), you returned to World of Disney and received the star-shaped Completer pin featuring Mickey dressed as Santa for the top of your tree.

The 1,000 people who paid to attend the Downtown event were the first to do Goofy's Tour. The other 2,000 game cards were later handed out to the public.

If you went to this event and can share any memories or photos, please reply! (Yes, I know this is pre-digital camera days, but pull out those old pics and scan them or take a picture with that modern phone.)

Don’t know if it’s appropriate to post on this thread because I didn’t attend the event, but I was fortunate to acquire the lanyard and a few pins from that event for my collection.

@buzz2001 The one with the red border was the pin from the pin-and-lanyard set that you got when you bought a ticket! Pretty nice gift for an event, eh?!
